FBI Now Investigating SC Woman’s Death After Falling From Cruise Ship

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The FBI is now investigating how a Charleston woman fell off a cruise ship.

The Coast Guard and cruise line officials say Kaylyn Rose Sommer of Charleston went overboard the Norwegian Pearl on Thursday while the ship was about 22 miles off the coast of Cuba.

We’re told the cruise was chartered for the Mad Decent Boat Party event, sailing from Miami to Cozumel from Wednesday to Sunday.

Officials say the woman was observed “intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing the Yucatan Channel.” She fell about 80-feet into the water.

Saturday authorities suspended the search for Sommer after searching more than 600 square nautical miles. On the same day, federal agents greeted the ship when it returned to Miami.
