INDIAN ORCHARD, Mass. (WWLP) – A woman bit off the tip of a man’s finger while he was trying to stop her from repeatedly hitting a pregnant bartender, Springfield police say. According to police Sgt. John Delaney, 26 year-old Jennifer Pagan is being charged with mayhem, assault and battery on a knowingly pregnant female, and defacement of real property in connection with the incident early Sunday morning at Pot Belly’s Pub in Indian Orchard.
According to Delaney, police were called to the Main Street bar at about 1:50 A.M. for a report of a disturbance. Once they got there, Delaney says the bartender came running out, and pointed to a woman on the street, who she said had just assaulted her. The officers were also confronted by a 46 year-old man who works at the bar, who said the same woman had bitten off part of his finger.
The woman, identified as Pagan, was taken into custody while the police talked to the victims. Delaney says they told police Pagan had been at the bar for hours, and was making passes at women visiting the bar. She was told to stop this, and enraged her- she jumped on top of the pool table, then ran outside to “challenge the other patrons that just left.”
Pagan went back inside, and witnesses said she struck the pregnant bartender in the face several times. The 46 year-old bar employee tried to intervene, but she bit off the tip of his finger.
Delaney says that police later found the body part on the floor of the bar. Police provided the man with first aid, and he was taken to the hospital.
Pagan was scheduled for arraignment Monday in Springfield District Court.
