A man will face a gun charge, but not a murder charge, police say.
Akimsey C. Crawford, 40, was identified as the suspect in the Quick Stop shooting that happened Friday night.
The Solicitor says the evidence supports that the accused shooter acted in self-defense.
One man is dead after a shooting at the Quick Stop on S Church St. Friday night and officers with the Spartanburg Police Department are looking for possible witnesses.
According to the report by the Department, officers were sent to the Quick Stop gas station around 9:40 p.m. after reports of gunshots were heard in the area.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds who was taken to the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment. He died from his injuries while at the hospital.
That victim has been identified as Demond J. Richardson, 38.
A bystander reportedly told officers about several shell casings in front of the gas station. After reviewing the store’s surveillance video, it was determined there were a couple of potential witnesses to this crime.
There were two different vehicles at the scene including a burgundy Ford Explorer and a dark colored Hyundai SUV during the time of the shooting. There was also another male who was inside making a purchase and left around the same time as the shooting.
Police are looking for either driver of those vehicles and the unidentified customer to see if any information can be put together to solve this shooting.
