Steve Taneyhill has been removed as Union County High School head football coach, Taneyhill confirmed to 7 Sports Monday night.
Taneyhill’s contract was not renewed by the Union County School Board at its Monday night meeting.
Taneyhill just completed his fourth season guiding the program. The Yellow Jackets finished 7-7, but won three games in the 3A upper state playoffs before losing to eventual state champion South Pointe in the upper state final.
He guided Union Co. for four seasons, posting a 22-27 record. His first team in 2012 went 9-6 and lost in the 3A state championship game to Hartsville.
Prior to his arrival at Union Co., Taneyhill recorded a 71-20 mark in seven seasons at Chesterfield. The Rams played for four straight Big 1A state titles, winning their final three in that stretch.
Taneyhill was the starting quarterback at South Carolina from the middle of the 1992 season through 1995. He guided the Gamecocks to their first-ever bowl victory to end the 1994 season.
