Walmart Employee’s Fingertip Bitten Off While Stopping Shoplifter, Report Says

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach Wal-Mart loss prevention officer lost part of her finger after she and another employee confronted a suspected shoplifter.

According to a Myrtle Beach police report, the incident happened at the Seaboard Street location around 2 p.m. Police said the suspect, Carolynn Elizabeth Wright, 23, got into a fight with two employees after they said she concealed merchandise.

One victim’s fingertip was bitten off during the struggle, the report said.  A customer who witnessed the fight tried to call 911 but dropped her phone.  Wright picked up the phone and refused to give it back, according to the report.  After the woman tried to get the phone back from Wright, she was grabbed by the hair and then punched Wright in the face, the report said.

The report said Wright then ran to the parking lot where a male drive was waiting.  She told him to “drive!” and “run!”

According to the report, the male driver told police someone was standing in front of the vehicle when Wright was screaming “drive.”

Wright was arrested and later charged with aggravated assault and shoplifting.  Police recovered condoms, lubricant, panties, bra, camisole, and other clothes totaling $40.07.

Two victims were treated by EMS. One victim required stitches and her fingertip was not able to be reattached, the report said.
