(Home on Fairmont Road) Anderson City Fire Department

ANDERSON, SC- Red Cross volunteers are assisting two families whose homes were damaged by home fires in Anderson County.

The homes were on Fairmont Road in Anderson and West Broad Street in Iva.

The volunteers are assisting four adults and six children by providing financial assistance for food, clothing, temporary housing, and other essentials.

The home fire on Fairmont Road was started in a light fixture, fire officials say. The homeowner said he heard it explode and then it caught fire; it moved from the attic to the roof, officials add.

The Fairmont Road home had some damage, but fire officials say it isn’t a total loss. They say the homeowners will need to repair the ceiling and fix the smoke damage.
