A Simpsonville man has been charged after investigators say he acted as a private detective without a valid license.
Darius Alexis Gist, 41, was charged with violations concerning private detectives and private security firms by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
The arrest warrant states Gist acted as a private detective in Greenville County. A complaint was filed in this case to SLED which oversees permits and other aspects of private detectives and security firms.
Gist was paid for services he provided in December of 2013 according to the warrant, but his private detective’s license expired in July of 2012.
The crime is a misdemeanor and carries a penalty of a year in prison, a fine of $5,000 or both. Gist was booked at the Greenville County Detention Center.
The 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.
