Upstate Prepares for Icy Roads Ahead

Road crews have been pre-treating the interstates and bridges since yesterday to prepare for what's ahead.

The ice is on its way.  Road crews have been pre-treating the interstates and bridges since yesterday to prepare for what’s ahead.

Department of Transportation officials are warning drivers to stay home if possible until the storm has passed.

SCDOT has over 550 snowplows across the state, along with 50,000 tons of salt, keeping you and your families safe.

As long as the precipitation keeps getting worse, crews will keep plowing and salting.

“We’re currently working two 12-hour shifts so that the trucks should be able to stay on the roadway around the clock once the storm hits,” says Brandon Wilson, SCDOT Maintenance Engineer.

Highway Patrol have troopers on standby throughout the storm to help anyone who may be stranded or in need of assistance.
