Union County deputies are investigating burglaries at two churches, less than a quarter of a mile apart.
The sheriff’s office says Fairview Baptist Church and Maple Ridge Baptist Church, each on Neal Shoals Road, both reported being broken into Wednesday evening.
In both cases, deputies say someone tampered with the power meter before breaking into the churches.
Deputies say the burglary at Fairview Baptist happened around 7:30pm Wednesday. They say someone got in through the back door and rummaged through the pastor’s and treasurer’s offices. It’s not clear if anything was missing.
The break-in at Maple Ridge Baptist was reported 30 minutes later, at 8pm Wednesday. Someone got in through the front glass doors by breaking the door’s seals.
The church member couldn’t tell if anything was missing.
