Winter Weather Advisories for Western NC mountains

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the mountains of western North Carolina including the counties of Mitchell, Yancey, Madison, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, and Graham.

Cooler weather is expected today with much colder air arriving tonight and Tuesday.


Meteorologist Malachi Rodgers expects some Upstate rain showers by Monday afternoon, with rain/snow showers in the mountains of North Carolina through the day. Highest elevations get the highest accumulations.

The NC/TN border counties will see totals increase through Wednesday in the higher elevations.

Some WNC schools are dismissing early:

Haywood County Schools: Dismiss at 11:30 AM
Madison County Schools – NC: Dismiss at 11 AM
Yancey County Schools: Dismiss at 10:30 AM

Warming Stations:

Hillcrest Baptist Church located 1300 Anderson Drive in Williamston (Anderson County) will host a warming shelter beginning Monday night and running through Wednesday night. It opens at 6 PM and closes at 9 AM.
