The Anderson County coroner’s office responded to a deadly wreck on Highway 81 in Anderson Co.
The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. at highway 81 and 153 in Powdersville, Thursday.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office responded to Florida Avenue to serve active warrants to 25-year-old Dexter Davon Reeves.
Deputies say when they found Reeves sitting a vehicle and they approached the vehicle before he sped off down highway 81 towards Anderson County.
The deputies jumped back into their patrol cars and attempted to pull over Reeves’ vehicle, according to reports. When deputies reached intersection highway 81 and highway 153, they noticed that Reeves collided with a pickup truck, killing the driver 62-year-old Stephen Burnett of Easley.
According to reports, Reeves had a total of 4 active warrants. Two warrants were from an incident on February 5, 2016 for Domestic Violence 1st Degree and Unlawful Conduct Towards a Child. Deputies say the other two warrants were from the incident Thursday morning; he was charged with Domestic Violence 1st Degree and Burglary 1st Degree.
This investigation is ongoing and more information will be released once it is complete.
Fire fighters, EMS, highway patrol, and deputies from Greenville and Anderson Counties were on the scene. Internal Affairs officers for Greenville County are part of the investigation.
