Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen has retired after 12 seasons according to the team website.
Allen joined the Panthers in a trade with the Chicago Bears during the 2015 season.
He started 12 games for Carolina including Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos. He suffered a broken foot during the season and didn’t play in the NFC Championship Game against Arizona.
Allen was a five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro according to Panthers.com
Allen tweeted a short video showing him riding away from the camera on horseback with the caption “riding off into the sunset.”
