OXFORD, N.C. (WNCN) — A trip to Walmart may have been what saved Rick McWIlliams’ life when the possible tornado in Granville County hit.
While McWilliams was out getting food for his dogs, his family room was completely destroyed.
The likely tornado touched down in Granville County with 9-1-1 calls indicating it moved from west to east … leaving a path of destruction on Huntsboro Road in Oxford.
“There was a railing over here and of course a roof.” Rick McWilliams said pointing to destruction.
Those strong winds tore McWilliams’ home apart. It picked up his car, along with the roof, and all of it ended up tossed across his backyard.
Luckily, McWilliams was out buying treats for his five dogs at the time, and he says that trip to Walmart likely saved his life.
“I got to about there when I realized and saw the house and realized it didn’t have a roof on it,” McWilliams said.
McWilliams then began to search the debris, and fortunately, found all five of his dogs to be okay.
