Calling all Dirty Dancing fans! Get your dancing shoes on.

There’s an open casting call for a 3-hour TV remake of the iconic movie near the original filming location, right here in the Carolinas.

DIRTY DANCING 1For a lot of people this was their coming of age story,” said Jacob Walas, an Asheville Ballet Member. “They all experienced it. Baby is out of the corner, you know, that break out.”

Jacob grew up watching the famous flick and for years now he’s been performing some of the most memorable dances from the film.

“It’s something that really shaped what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be,” he said. DIRTY DANCING 3

Thousands come to see Jacob and other dancers perform at the dirty dancing festival every year. It’s held in Lake Lure, North Carolina, where the original movie was filmed. The stars stayed at the Lake Lure Inn and Spa, that the film crew also used for staging.

“The lake lift, the dance lift, your golf scenes, all of those things got their start right here,” Patrick Bryant said, Hotel Ambassador at Lake Lure Inn and Spa.

It’s popularity has become the center of the small town’s pride. The Inn offers tours to show nearby locations where iconic scenes were filmed in the lake. A cardboard cutout sits inside the welcome center of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

“As far away as the UK and even Singapore, we have guests coming to ask about Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey,” Bryant said.

As soon it was announced Dirty Dancing was being remade into a TV special, fans like Jacob knew they wanted to be a part of it.

“To be able to recreate that and have that magic for them and to be a part of that magic growing up watching it,” he explained. “They’re bringing it home again and that is really special.”
