CALIFORNIA (WIVB) — A family in California thought they would never see their German Shepherd again.
She was lost at sea for more than a month. Luna fell off her owner’s fishing boat when they were out on the water one night.
The dog’s owner didn’t know she ended up on the island of San Celemente. Members of the Navy found her there this week.
“Everyone on the island wanted to see her, have a picture with her. Everyone fell in love with her,” said Connor Lamb, a friend of Luna’s owner. “We just have to thank the Navy, really. From Luna and her owner Nick and myself and everyone who knows this dog, our gratitude to them.”
Navy officials said Luna survived by eating dead fish along the shore, and was helped by El Niño storms for fresh water. That island has no standing water.
