A Union man is facing drug charges after deputies say they found him asleep in a car, in the road. The caller told deputies the car was stopped for more than 30 minutes with the blinker on at the intersection of Bishop Road and Cross Keys Highway in Union County.
According to the incident report from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find Richard Lee Gilliam asleep in the driver’s seat with the car running and the car stereo playing.
They say they had to knock on the window and yell to wake him up. Deputies say Gilliam was disoriented, didn’t know what time it was or what road he was on.
Deputies say Gilliam told them he was driving with a suspended license. While they were arresting him, they found a pill bottle in his pocket with various drugs inside.
Gilliam now faces several charges including possession of meth, cocaine and other narcotics and stopping in the roadway.
