Train stopped briefly after reports of fire

A train passing through Oconee County was stopped after a 9-1-1 call reported that several of its cars were on fire.

Once the freight train was stopped, it was determined that there was no fire and that the smoke was coming from a potential brake issue, according to Oconee County Fire Chief Charles King.

King says the train resumed its journey shortly after it was determined that there was no fire.

The incident happened between Westminster and the Georgia state line.
