Amy Leigh Brown

McDOWELL COUNTY – A woman was arrested in Nebo, North Carolina after sheriff’s deputies say a man – who had a wallet stolen from his car – caught the thief on his own.

Amy Leigh Brown, 39, is charged with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office says a man was at his home on Lake Club Heights Drive Thursday afternoon when he saw a woman getting out of his car that was parked in the driveway.

The victim saw the woman drive off and he followed her to Nebo Baptist Church.

The man says he saw Brown sitting in her car and was going through his wallet. He says he grabbed his wallet away from Brown, took her car keys out of the ignition and called 911.

Brown – who is from Marion – was arrested by a MCSO deputy in the church parking lot.
