Spring is here and so is allergy season.

New rankings show Greenville is 32nd on the list of the worst places to live if you have allergies.

A report from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America ranked Columbia 13th and Charleston ranks 28th in the nation.

Spartanburg Allergist Emmanuel Sarmiento said finding your trigger can make treatment easier and more effective.

Sarmiento told 7 News at his Allergic Disease and Asthma Center office in Spartanburg that his patients present with symptoms like itchy eyes, stuffy nose and sneezing.

Many suffer starting in mid-February and continue through April from allergens in the trees and then through June with allergens from the grass.

Sarmiento recommends over the counter anti-histamines like Claritin and Allegra,

He also tells patients to combine these with nasal spray and other methods.

Allergy shots are recommended if these treatments fail.

Sarmiento said finding out what you’re allergic to specifically will help you lessen your symptoms but you may also want to consider vaccines to alleviate the trigger.
