Tanker fire victim badly burned, ID’d through DNA says coroner

The Greenville Co. Coroner Jeff Fowler says they have identified the person killed in a tanker fire.

52-year-old James Baird of Lake City, SC was killed in he accident on Cooley Bridge Road and Holiday Dam Road, Friday afternoon.

The coroner says the truck went off the road and Baird tried to correct, but the trailer overturned.

The truck them became engulfed in flames, killing Baird.

Fowler said it took longer than usual because the body was burned so badly.

The remains were persevered enough that they were able to take it for DNA testing.

Firefighters say the truck was carrying 8,100 gallons of gasoline.

Baird worked for APC Trucking according to the coroner.

Troopers say that Cooley Bridge Road is still blocked between Holiday Dam Road and Butterick Road and was closed, because the road is melted and will need repairs.
