A skull was found on Double Branch Rd. under a bridge in Cowpens, according to Spartanburg Co. Coroner Rusty Clevenger.
He says that they are treating it as suspicious.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, two detectives were interviewing a man who was a burglary victim when he told them he had found a human skull in the creek.
No other remains have been found in the area and the man who found the skull did not know when he first saw it in the creek.
Investigators say it is possible the skull could have been washed down the creek or an animal may have brought it to the location where it was found.
The coroner says a forensic anthropologist will be called to help in the identification.
