Polk Co. homicide: 3 persons of interest held on charges in FL

POLK CO., NC (WSPA) – The Polk County Sheriff’s Department says 3 people who are identified as persons of interest in the murder of 51-year-old Destry Horne of Lilesville, NC are now in custody in Gainesville, FL.

They are being held there on unrelated, but serious charges in Alachua, Co. FL.

Polk Co. says they have investigators went to Florida to speak with them to see if they can provide any information about the murder.

Polk County deputies will be holding a news conference to discuss updates to the case on Thursday at 1pm. 7News will be streaming this news conference live on WSPA.com.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN FLORIDA – KIDNAPPING AND HOME INVASION

Gainesville Police says they responded to a report of a home invasion robbery at Arbor Loft Apartments.

The say 2 men and a women were seen hanging around outside of the victim’s apartment.

They say one of the victims left the apartment to get a skateboard outside.

When the victim got back one of the men had a gun and forced their way inside.

The suspects tied the victims up while the ransacked the apartment, say police.

They say the suspects took one of the victims to the ATM to get money and then returned to the apartment.

The group then stole a Hyundai Elantra from the apartment.

Police say the suspects took a female victim with them to ensure the others did not call the police, but the suspects let her go at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

They stole wallets, iPhones, and cash, according to police.

Police say they used the iPhone to track the suspects to the Baymont Inn in Tallahassee where they were arrested.

They also found a stolen Subaru SUV they say was stolen from South Carolina.

Police are trying to figure out why they were in Gainesville, because they don’t think they have any ties to the area.

They are currently in the Leon Co. Jail in Florida.

WHAT HAPPENED IN POLK CO. HOMICIDE

The murder happened on the Hwy 74 ramp March 31st.

Polk Co. Inv. Final 1 Deputies say they are looking for a 4th person.

She is an unidentified woman who is standing near the gas pump in the photo.

According to officials, the people shown in the photo may have information about the shooting.

The persons of interest were seen in the photographs driving an early model red Ford Mustang.

In the photograph outside of the gas station, it is the vehicle closest to the pumps.

Spartanburg Co. Sheriff’s Office thinks that Mustang is the same one that was stolen from Reliable Rides on Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greer on Thursday, March 31.

A Greer Police Department report says two men kicked in the front door and got the car keys from a desk.
