Undercover officer, suspect shot in Alabama

Mobile Police have confirmed an undercover officer shot twice early this morning in Grand Bay is stable at the hospital and a suspected shooter is in critical condition.

WKRG-TV News 5 reported the occurred shortly after midnight near the I-10 exit in Grand Bay. It was an undercover narcotics operation that took a turn for the worse when shots were fired between the officer and the suspect.

             STORY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Shooting was part of a reported narcotics bust, when the suspect and the officer exchanged gunfire
  • Suspect is in critical condition at USA Medical Center.

Mobile Police say the officer shot is a member of MCSENT — Mobile County Street Enforcement Narcotics Team.

Witnesses say the suspect was meeting people behind the restaurant, when undercover police officers turned their car lights on.  The suspect attempted to flee on a motorcycle.  He was chased to a nearby gas station where the shooting happened.

“And then all of the sudden the SUV turned on blue lights and then two cars came from the back of the parking lot and the cops followed em, backed up went out there and so they chased him to the gas station across the street,” said a witness at the Waffle House.  “[The suspect] wrecked his motorcycle and the next thing we know 4 more cops show up, 5 more cops show up, 19 cops, fire department it was crazy!”
