A man is in custody after a bank robbery in Simpsonville, Saturday morning.
Simpsonville Deputy Police Chief Steve Moore said that officers responded to the TD Bank on Fairview Drive around 9:30am after receiving a report that a man with dark hair, a scruffy beard and wearing a pair of blue jeans and blue glasses had robbed the bank.
According to Moore, officers received tips from residents in Fox Chase subdivision that a man matching the suspect’s description was going door-to-door asking for water. When officers responded they spotted the suspect, 38-year-old Elias Price, of Greer, near Border Avenue and attempted to arrest him. However, Price fought off the officers and ran away with one handcuff on.
Moore said that Price ran through some woods and then into several neighborhoods where he confronted a couple in Westwood subdivision and unsuccessfully attempted to steal their car. Shortly thereafter, officers spotted Price on Pinonwood Drive and took him into custody. Price did not have any of the money in his possession when he was arrested.
Deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the manhunt and the FBI is also investigating the case.
Moore says that Price is likely to be charged with bank robbery and two counts of attempted car theft. He allegedly attempted to steal a car from the Burger King parking lot beside the bank, he added.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office also confirms that Price was wanted for an armed robbery at the Lil Cricket on August Road, Friday night.
