CHARLOTTE, NC— Three lanes of I-85 North are closed near exit 42 (I-85 Connector to US-29) after a tractor trailer crash, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The lanes are expected to re-open around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Drivers will need to take a detour by local law enforcement on scene.
The tractor-trailer fire shut down Interstate 85 and a connecting bridge in north Charlotte.
Two people were trapped and seriously injured in the wreck.
Firefighters closed the bridge from N. Tryon Street to I-85 southbound after concerns of possible damage to the overpass.
It took 23 firefighters around 32 minutes to free two people. Medic took the two to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.
Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are assisting with traffic control.
