Victim and friends subdue thief say Spartanburg police

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Police say they answered a call for disturbance and larceny outside of Cici’s Pizza in Spartanburg. The suspect, Ronnie Blackwell from Boiling Springs, had been caught stealing from a van by the van’s owner.

The van owner and his friends made sure that Blackwell didn’t leave the scene until the police arrived.

Officers say Blackwell had two of the victim’s ladders, along with other allegedly stolen articles, inside a black Nissan Pathfinder.

Blackwell claimed the Pathfinder belonged to his friend but it had also been reported stolen earlier that day in Spartanburg County.

Officers say they had to use both handcuffs and leg shackles to detain Blackwell because they caught him climbing into the drivers seat of the police car and reaching for the steering wheel.

They also say Blackwell claimed he had black tar heroin on him but he threw it out of the police car window.

Officers are looking to get a warrant for petit larceny enhanced and a warrant for attempted grand larceny.
