Students at Clemson University staged a sit in to address race relations on campus spanning over 24 hours.
Some of these demonstrators stayed overnight outside Sikes Hall.
The students were told Thursday that if they did not leave Sikes Hall by 5:30 p.m. that they could face arrest.
Five students stayed inside the building after 5:30 and were later released on their own recognizance. Those students will have to appear in campus court at a later date that is unknown at this time.
On Monday, 2 students hung bananas from a banner that paid tribute to the role of African-Americans in Clemson’s history.
Clemson leaders say those students will not be charged because using perishable fruit doesn’t make it a crime. The students could face disciplinary action from the university.
