The Spartanburg Police Department is taking a new approach to fighting shoplifting.
The department now has two investigators assigned to shoplifting cases. It’s a change they made a few months ago, once they noticed a spike.
Investigator Eric Gallman says it’s important for officers to partner with stores and the community to try and find ways to combat the issue – a crime where the stores and the customers end up paying for it.
“Their prices go up, have to add security measures, have to add additional personnel,” Gallman explained of the impacts.
Gallman says with pictures and videos, they can solve most cases especially with the public’s help on social media.
“You’re constantly being watched by their cameras. They’re always recording,” he said of stores.
