Bikeville Classic draws crowds to downtown Greenville

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Fans lined the streets in downtown Greenville Sunday for the Bikeville Classic.

Teams from around the country competed in team time trials Saturday on Interstate 185 and a professional criterium with speeds up to 35 miles per hour in downtown, Sunday.

The events are part of the 2016 USA Cycling Team Time Time Trial & Professional Criterium National Championships.

Fans got to cheer on their favorite team and experience up close and personal excitement of American bicycle racing.

Spectators were even invited to ride their bikes on the Southern Connector Saturday morning before the races.

Local pro team Finish Strong Elite raced in Greenville and ahead of the race, teammates Ben Chris and Justin stopped by 7 News Daybreak to talk strategy and racing in Greenville.

The riders say they enjoy talking to the families and members of the crowd about what they do.

They also thanked their sponsors including Tandem Creperie in Travelers Rest and Boyd tires in Greenville.
