Greenville Police are trying to identify two men who they say vandalized a statue in the downtown area.
We’re told it happened early in the morning of April 4 at the Chihuly statue at 9 University Street. Police say two men pulled on the statue until they were able to break a number of pieces from it.
They were also seen walking away with the broken pieces on photos taken from security cameras.
Investigators say one of the men had dark hair, wore a green shirt with dark sleeves and jeans. The other man also had dark hair and was wearing jeans, but was wearing a light-colored long sleeve shirt.
The “Rose Crystal Tower” – by artist Dale Chihuly – was installed last October at Harriet’s Garden in Falls Park, located behind the West End Market.
Chihuly’s work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide according to the City of Greenville.
Anyone with information regarding about the vandalism and larceny is asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 864-271-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME (27463).
