More than two million people watched Rion Holcombe on a video, as he opened an acceptance letter, and realized that he was going to college.
Now, two years later, the 22-year-old with Down syndrome is a graduate of the ClemsonLIFE Program.
“It feels awesome a lot. I am proud,” Holcombe said of the graduation ceremony this past weekend.
“I learned to take a bus to Bi-Lo and groceries. I can cook tacos with my cooking class,” Rion said as he addressed the audience during the ceremony Saturday.
Mom, Susan, says he’s spent the past two years studying on campus and learning about independent living.
“He really had to work hard to achieve a lot of things that maybe other people just find easy,” Susan explained. “He works very hard.”
Rion is now ready for his next step – looking for a job.
