The author of controversial bathroom bill says he’s now going to add it as a proviso to the state budget.
State Senator Lee Bright wants to strip cities and municipalities of state funding if they pass ordinances allowing transgendered people to use the public restroom of their choice.
Bright’s bill was based off a similar law that is now in place in North Carolina. He says he’s not trying to targeted transgendered people, but he simply wants to keep children safe.
“There are folks that will use this to gain access to areas that should be safe and secure,” Bright said.
Bright is adding this to the budget because his bill is not likely to pass this legislative session. Lawmakers could vote on the proviso within two weeks.
