Storm Team 7 is tracking some thunderstorms that hit portions of the upstate and western North Carolina early Sunday morning.
The storms brought frequent lightning and gusty winds to the various counties. Duke Energy reported as many as 1,900 customers were without power in Spartanburg County early Sunday morning, but that number had dwindled to around 600 customers shortly before noon. Power is expected to be restored by early afternoon, Duke Energy officials said.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue throughout most of Sunday and some storms may be severe with locally heavy rainfall, hail and damaging winds. A high of 82 degrees is expected in the upstate today, while the mountains will see a high of around 77. Tonight will see more of the same, as the storms and heavy rain will begin to clear late as lows reach the low 60s in the upstate and mid-50s in the mountains..
More thunderstorms are likely Monday and Tuesday, before a cold front passes through Wednesday leading to clearing skies and cooler temperatures later in the week..
