McDOWELL COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – Four jail inmates have been charged with beating another inmate with broken broom handles in McDowell County over cigarettes.
Andrew Clifton Johnson, 26, Christopher Paul Martin, 35, Paul Edward Poteat, 27, and William Robinette Jr., 37, all from Marion were charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say the four men attacked a 30-year old inmate on April 20 in a fight over cigarettes.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital for his injuries.
Johnson was in jail charged with murder.
Martin faces charges including misdemeanor assault and first-degree burglary.
Robinette is accused of possession of a stolen vehicle.
Poteat is charged with failure to appear in court.
