DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Employees with Dayton Public Schools are helping fund a reward to help catch the man responsible for stabbing a 7-year-old girl.
Officials with Dayton Public Schools announced they would offer a reward of $5,000 or more for any information leading to the conviction of the man who stabbed a second grade girl on May 6.
“The idea of an enhanced reward was actually born from an employee who said, ‘What else can we do,’” said Jyllian Guerriero, Legal Counsel with Dayton Public Schools. “We said this was a perfect idea. So all the money that is being raised has been from donations alone.”
On May 6, the girl was playing on the swings at World of Wonder Elementary on Oakridge Drive when she stabbed. She was taken to Dayton Children’s with a collapsed lung and was released a few days later.
Detectives with the Dayton Police Department, however, have been looking for tips into the investigation.
To help gather information on the stabbing, Dayton Public Schools has joined with Miami Valley Crime Stoppers.
Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 to find the attacker.
“This was a 7-year-old, innocent child. This is as innocent as you can think of,” said Elmer Querubin with Miami Valley Crime Stoppers. “What the suspect did was horrendous. Let’s get this suspect to jail.”
The attacker is described as:
- Black male with a light complexion
- 5’8″-5’10”, medium build
- 18-20 years old
- Short hair
- Blue or beige gym shorts
- Tan or green hooded sweatshirt
- Orange undershirt.
Anyone with information is urged to call Dayton police or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP (7867). Tips can also be made by downloading the P3 Tips app on smartphone.
All information given through Miami Valley Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous.
District officials said if nobody comes forward to claim the reward, the district’s reward would be given to the victim’s family.
Anyone looking to help add to the reward can send cash or checks to:
