Greenville security guard enters guilty plea in murder trial

GREENVILLE (WSPA) A security guard – who prosecutors say shot and killed a man in 2013 – entered a guilty plea while a jury determined his fate.

Stephen Harry pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter after being charged with murder in the death of Ledrekius Sloan in the parking lot of the Savannah Suites on Wade Hampton Boulevard. It happened in March of 2013.

Harry was sentenced to ten years in prison that was suspended to five years on Wednesday according to the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

A jury hearing the case deliberated for 90 minutes before Harry entered the guilty plea.

Harry had said Sloan drove a car in his direction that night more than three years ago and thought he was going to be run over. He fired his gun into the car windshield, killing Sloan.

The prosecution had argued Harry took the law into his own hands in the incident.
