PICKENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA)- A new company is coming to Pickens Co.
The German based company, ERA Contact, is the world market leader in electrical railway couplings.
The Pickens County location will BE the company’s North American headquarters, which will be bring over $3 million in investment. That’s only adding to the 11 billion dollar impact foreign companies have on our state.
They will soon take their place in the Pickens County Commerce Park next to companies like Adidas, Taylormade, St. Jude Medical and Reliable Sprinkler Company. They are all global leaders in their own right according to Ray Farley, Executive Director of Alliance Pickens.
“In our community, we start training people to solve problems with mind and hand in elementary school. We continue it through middle school, we accelerate it through high school. That is not done around a lot of the US,” said Farley.
He believes a skilled workforce sets the Upstate apart.
“I think that’s why these strong, world class, number one and number two companies are finding our community,” he said.
It’s one thing to get these foreign companies to come here. It’s another to get them to stay and expand, but the numbers are showing that’s what they are doing time and time again.
“Over the last 5 years or so, the announcements that we’ve had, close to 60 % of those announcements have been expansions,” said Moe Brown with the state Department of Commerce.
Representing Governor Haley at Wednesday’s announcement, Brown said continued expansion shows South Carolina has come through on a promise to help companies prosper.
“Look at Michelin. They’ve got 8 plants here. That is the biggest stamp of approval,” he said.
Foreign companies employ more than 115,000 South Carolinians, with more than 1200 operations across the state.
ERA Contract will create 45 new jobs and its hoping to expand to more than 200 jobs.
There will not be any job information until construction is near completion.
