GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – The man shot by deputies at the Walmart store on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Taylors has died from his injuries at the hospital.
52-year-old Reginald Dogan died just after 2:30pm on Wednesday.
Dogan was shot on May 2nd when deputies told him to put down his weapon and he refused, deputies say.
Sheriff Steve Loftis says Dogan advanced toward one of the deputies and that deputy opened fire, hitting him at least once.
A report from the State Law Enforcement Division claims there is no dash cam or body cam video from the incident.
Both deputies are back on duty today after a short administrative duty during the investigation. Loftis says eyewitness accounts show that deputies followed procedure and clearly acting in self-defense.
Dogan’s family released this statement:
“Although my father as crossed over to his resting place, my family and I will not rest until we have a complete picture of what happen the day he was shot. For more than two weeks, my father fought for his life but unfortunately he lost his battle, but in his death we plan to fight for his dignity. Due to the substantial injuries to my father’s neck, he was not able to tell us what happen to him the day he was shot, but when I was finally able to sit by his bedside, and to look in his eyes; I promised him that I would find the truth; therefore, we have asked Fighting Injustice Together to help us conduct an independent investigation, and they have agreed”.
