COLUMBIA (WSPA) South Carolina’s unemployment rate rose slightly even as the number of people working in the state grew to a new record high.
The jobless rate in April was 5.8 percent compared to 5.7 percent in March according to the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce.
The total number of people working in the state reached a new record of more than 2.1 million people.
The agency reports more than 10,000 people entered the workforce in April which helped to increase the jobless figure. SCDEW also notes unemployment rose by nearly 3,000 people last month to 134,301.
The national unemployment rate in April was five percent.
