HENDERSON COUNTY (WSPA) A raccoon – that came into contact with a dog – tested positive for rabies in Henderson County.
It’s the second confirmed case of rabies reported in the county in the past week.
Henderson County officials say the raccoon came into contact with the dog in the Bald Rock Road area on May 17. The positive test result from the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health was announced Friday.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Animal Enforcement Division and the Department of Public Health are urging residents to ensure their pet’s rabies vaccination is current.
Officials say it’s possible the raccoon in the Bald Rock Road area may have had contact with other wild and domestic animals.
