A lawsuit just filed in Anderson County claims that deputies were negligent in shooting a man they knew “was off his medication.”
Jonathan Chad Christian was shot by deputies in December 2015 on South Main Street.
According to an incident report, deputies went to the home in the evening after being dispatched and stated that Christian seemed to be off his medication and was acting erratic.
Deputies were also dispatched to the home a few hours later knowing that the earlier call happened. Deputies say that Christian was wielding a brick at them when he shot them.
Christian now requires 24-hour care from injuries he sustained from the shooting.
This lawsuit claims that the deputies failed to use the proper procedure for deadly force, that they failed to have an appropriate system for risk assessment.
The lawsuit also claims it was wrong for deputies to shoot Christian in the back when he was unarmed.
