Tractor trailor overturns, leaking treated wastewater in Enoree

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA)- Firefighters are responding to an overturned tractor trailer on Garrett Rd. in Laurens County, near the Spartanburg County line.

The Youngs Fire Department says the tractor trailer was carrying 6000 gallons of a natural organic fertilizer. Renewable Water Resources says it’s a material that comes from the process of treating waste water.

The truck was also leaking a small amount of diesel fuel.

The wreck happened around 7:24am, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Firefighters say the driver was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center with injuries, but is expected to be ok.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, ReWa says it spilled about 3,000 gallons of the all-natural fertilizer. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control will handle all the removal.

ReWa says the drinking water supply has not been affected and sewer services will not be interrupted.

Troopers and firefighters are not sure what caused the 18 wheeler to overturn.
