RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) – Police say three teens died after the car they were in crashed trying to exit Interstate 95 at more than 100 mph.

Ridgeland Police Officer David Swinehamer says an officer on traffic duty near the U.S. Highway 17 exit Wednesday night clocked the car doing 109 mph on radar.

Swinehamer told The Island Packet of Hilton Head  that the car then tried to exit I-95 on a ramp with a maximum safe speed of 25 mph and the driver lost control, hitting a sign and flipping several times before the roof hit a tree.

Police said 17-year-old Jashawn Brown, 18-year-old Jakeem Pinckney and 18-year-old Tykeem Johnson were all killed. Authorities say Johnson and Pinckney graduated Colleton High School last week, while Brown was a rising senior.
