ROCHESTER, Minn. (KIMT) – A Rochester man faces charges of domestic assault and third-degree assault, both felonies, after allegedly beating his physically disabled roommate on Sunday, causing several facial fractures.
Rochester police say 33-year-old Ryan Mahoney was “upset and having a bad day” and wound up repeatedly punching his 50-year-old roommate after he allegedly touched an item belonging to him.
After police responded around noon to the 600 block of Seventh Avenue SE, they were told Mahoney had been punching holes in the walls before the assault.
At some point, police say the victim grabbed a nearby hammer and hit Mahoney on the head. The suspect was reportedly able to take the hammer from him.
Charges are pending.
