YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown woman was arrested after police said she hit her boyfriend in the head with a machete during a fight.
Police were called to a home on E. Judson Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Police noted in a report that they had been called to the house multiple times due to the couple fighting while intoxicated.
An officer questioned 50-year-old Bridgett Crawford, who they said was stumbling across the street from a neighbor’s house. When asked if she had any weapons, Crawford lifted her shirt, exposing her stomach and breast to an officer, according to the report.
Police said a box cutter was in Crawford’s waistband, and she said she needed the knife as protection against the alleged victim, Marvin Jones.
Jones told police that he and Crawford were drinking when they began arguing. He said Crawford then bit his arm and hit him in the head with a machete, later throwing it into the bushes and walking to a neighbor’s home.
Police said a dull machete was found in the bushes next to the porch. Jones had new and old bite marks on his arm and a stab wound to his chest, according to the police report.
Crawford told police she used the weapon in self-defense, saying that Jones pulled a kitchen knife on her and choked her after an argument over another man. She said she was able to grab the knife from Jones, stabbing him in the chest. She said she then struck him with the machete, but due to her extreme intoxication, used the wrong end of the weapon, according to police.
Crawford was charged with felonious assault and taken to Mahoning County Jail, where she is being held without bond. She was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.
