SC teen pregnancy conference begins Tuesday

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA)- More than 300 people are coming to Greenville, starting Tuesday, to focus on a major issue in the state.

It’s the 17th annual Summer Institute for the South Carolina Campaign to prevent teen pregnancy.

The conference kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and goes through Friday.

This is the first time this conference has ever been in Greenville and according to the campaign, 95 percent of Carolinians say teen pregnancy is a problem in their communities.

Although, the teen pregnancy rate has dropped by more than 60 percent in the past two decades, it’s still a costly issue for people across the state.

On average, tax payers are shelling out $166 million dollars a year and less than half of teen mothers finish high school.
