NC inmate spits in officer’s face, charged with felony say deputies

McDOWELL COUNTY, NC (WSPA) A western North Carolina man – in jail for a probation violation – now faces a felony charge after deputies say he spit in an officer’s face.

Brandon Boyd Derreberry, 21, is charged with felony malicious conduct by a prisoner by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say he was in the McDowell County Jail on a misdemeanor probation violation. We’re told he began beating on his cell door on May 20 which caused a disturbance.

A sergeant at the jail tried to put Derreberry into a safety restraint chair according to investigators. That’s when the sheriff says Derreberry spit in the sergeant’s face.
