Searching for snakes after Upstate video goes viral

GREENWOOD, SC (WSPA) — A Greenwood man shared a video with 7News, showing snakes dangling out of his attic.

Mark Hyatt made the startling discovery when he came home from work.

He was able to get one snake outside but the other slithered out of sight.

The video quickly went viral, capturing the attention of people from across the world.

Austin Sears, with Critter Gitters, was one of millions who watched the video.

“I seen the video and seen how he reacted.  It made me want to come over and help,” said Sears.

Sears is an expert at scoping out and snatching up snakes.

Even with all his experience, he said the video still caught him by surprise.

“Especially hanging in your attic like that, that was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen,” he said.

Critter Gitters started inspecting around the house before heading up into the attic.

“There’s a lot more poop than I normally see,” Sears said as he crawled through the dark.

The droppings were from rodents and snakes.  Sears says mice are almost always what draws snakes inside.

After the inspection, Sears used a caulking gun to seal cracks around the home.

He never found a snake and unfortunately, Hyatt hasn’t either.

“You just kind of tell yourself, ‘it probably found its way out,'” said Hyatt.

When Hyatt originally came home to find the snakes, he did what anyone would do.  He wrote and recorded a song about the experience.  WATCH HERE:
