A student accidentally shot himself with a gun in his backpack at Southside High School May 13th.
Friday, 7 News obtained new documents from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office about what exactly happened inside the school that day.
The 60 page incident report contains dozens of witness statements as to what happened that day.
One of the statements was from the school resource officer who responded to the shooting.
He says as soon as he entered the lunch room he saw students heading for the door, trying to leave the school; some screaming “he’s been shot” and “he’s dead.”
Then, a school official caught him up on what was actually going on.
The student was taken to the principal’s office where the student told the principal someone had shot him.
From there, the student was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
