3rd Dorchester Co. escaped inmate now back in police custody

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Donald Ray Little, Jr., the third inmate who escaped from the Dorchester County Jail on Friday is now in police custody.

According to Chief Mike Cochran with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Little was taken into custody off of College Park Road on Monday, June 27. We’re told he was arrested without incident.

The three men pushed out a window at the Dorchester County Jail in St. George at around 3 a.m. Friday and then used a blanket to get over barbed wire. Eleven other inmates at the jail saw the escape but did not try to flee.

Matthew Chaplin and his brother Michael Chaplin surrendered to police after officers surrounded a Goose Creek home Sunday night.

Little was in jail for a probation violation, the Dorchester County sheriff’s office said. Michael Chaplin was jailed for grand larceny and burglary, and Matthew Chaplin was in jail for possession of meth, credit card theft and possession of a stolen vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

All three are from the Summerville area.
